Before I get to my fears, I need to vent for just a moment. This week has been draining; physically and emotionally. Mostly because I had a dr's appointment and in order to prevent from using my precious PTO, I made my time up. While it sounded good in my head, in reality that meant getting up around 5:00 every morning to get the kids to Nana's before school and be at work by 7. Even though I did that for 3 days being gone from home for close to 12 hours is a killer. This may sound a little like a pity party but it's really not. Just sleep deprivation. Ok, now back to the main topic...fear.
I struggled when I thought about what 8 fears I had were. I have the usual ones, bugs, heights, things that go bump in the night. But, what is it that I am really afraid of? The answer is nothing. In Isaiah 41:10 it says "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." I have learned and am still learning not to fear anything because my God is with me through it all. I also know that He will continue to be with me through it all. It is very easy to get caught up in the fears of this world. We are constantly bombarded with illnesses, violence, bad economies, etc. The list goes on and on. But, knowing the Creator who created it all and cares for me and my problems, is going through this with me is just phenomenal. I couldn't imagine going through life thinking there is no hope, or wondering why I am constantly faced with struggles. This life is not easy, no one every claimed it would be, and just remember when it seems like other people don't have any problems, their problems may not be visible to all but they are struggling just as much as you are.
However, in order to keep with the challenge I've listed out 8 "fears" that I have:
1.) Snakes-there is no such thing as a good snake unless its a dead snake.
2.) Huge spiders-I'm not just talking your normal sized spiders, the ones I'm referring to are the ones you normally see behind a plate of glass in a museum or something.
3.) Dinosaurs-I know these don't exist anymore but if you ride the Dinosaur ride at Disney it is scary enough to convince you these still exist.
4.) Slimy things that live in the ocean-no explanation needed.
5.) Oversleeping in the mornings when I have to get the kids to school-There have been a few occasion I have turned the alarm off by mistake instead of hitting snooze and luckily my dogs have internal clocks that go off at 6:30 in the morning. This can cause major chaos in the mornings that usually leave me debating if my hair needs to be washed or if dry shampoo will work. Nine times out of ten, the dry shampoo is the choice.
6.) Getting lost on a trail when I'm out running (however, with my birthday gift given to me by my mom and stepdad, I no longer have to worry about this. They gave me a Garmin running watch that is the coolest thing I have acquired thus far in my running career.)
7.) Forgetting to file my taxes-This is something I never have to worry about because we always get our's done pretty early in February or March but when April 15th rolls around I tend to still have some anxiety that we didn't get ours in. (Even when I'm out spending any of the refund we are blessed enough to get).
8.) Mice-I don't know who in this world can handle a mouse in their home! Growing up we always had cats to prevent these little creatures from coming in and now that I'm married and we can't have cats due to some severe allergies, my dogs have to protect me. Plus, I've secretly adopted our neighbor's outdoor cat to keep an eye on our place. I take no chances when it comes to preventing one of those rodents of getting in the house.
So, there you have it 8 fears. Tomorrow is 7 wants. Now, I'm off to bed at the late time of 8:45pm before I start sleep dialing/texting. :)
